How are people dealing with these sorts of problems? I'm foreseeing just running 4 PS3 controllers, setting up mappings that I personally like and telling my friends to deal with it. That seems like a recipe that's just setting up to fail: EVENTUALLY someone will unplug a controller for some reason or another and now my ENTIRE 12-controller remapping schema has to be re-done. That sucks for a social thing that's just supposed to be "load up and play". The only solution I have to this problem is to leave every controller plugged in at all times or we'll have to manually re-map the controls each time we switch games. Unplugging and plugging in controllers can cause their ID numbers in Windows to change and therefore the controller mappings will be off when an emulator is loaded up. That's hard enough for me as the host, let alone my poor friends. The problem will partly be ME trying to remember the funky mappings for dozens of N64 games, each of which will be set up to handle the needs of each game. The best idea I have is to simply use 4 PS3 controllers, create the funky mappings required to handle N64 and Wii games ahead of time and just kind of.tell my friends the controls and hope to God they don't hate them.

Assuming 4 controllers to support 4 players, the minimum setup that needs to ALL be plugging into the PC at the same time SEEMS to be as follows:Ĥ N64 controllers (because the 6 button layout is a nightmare for any typical controller to remap to)Ĥ PS3 Controllers (which can work for most consoles)Ĥ Wiimotes (because emulating all the Wiimote-ness on a PS3 controller gets some really funky mapping)ġ2 controllers plugged in to my machine at the same time? I'd much rather have 4 multi-purpose controllers that can be mapped to every console. My question relates to controllers themselves. I have no problem setting up all those controller mappings myself manually beforehand. Ideally I'm looking to have a system that's easy to just start up, load a game and couch-play with friends - any console, any game, and the controls are already pre-mapped and it just works - No setup during the event - just pick a game and play. The really problematic beasts have been N64 and Wii. A Ps3 controller can basically do the job on most consoles (and I already have 4 laying around). I want to be able to support everything from 1980s games up to Gamecube/PS2/Wii.

I'm looking to build an emulation PC for my living room.
